Spring skiing in Park City means soft snow, warm sun and shorter lift lines. It can also be unpredictable. Last winter was one of the lowest snow years on record in Utah, and both Park City Mountain and Deer Valley closed earlier than planned. Here is how to plan a spring trip that works whatever the snow does.
When do the resorts close?
Resorts usually plan to close in mid-April, but closing is weather dependent. The 2026-27 closing dates have not been announced, and they are normally set later in the season. Last season, Deer Valley closed March 29 and Park City Mountain closed April 5. Check the resort’s current closing date before you book, and lean toward March if you want the best odds.
What the snow is like
Expect firm snow early, softer “corn” snow by late morning and slushier snow on lower-elevation runs by afternoon. Higher-elevation terrain holds up longest. Start early, then break for a long lunch in the sun.
Backup options for late-season skiing
If Park City closes early, nearby resorts at higher elevation usually stay open longer. Last season Alta was planning to close April 26 and Solitude May 17, and Snowbird closed May 10. Check each resort’s own site for current dates.
Spring events
Spring brings closing-weekend parties, live music and pond skims, where skiers and riders try to cross a pool of water. Last year Park City Mountain scheduled one but canceled it for poor conditions, so dates change year to year. Check Park City Mountain and Deer Valley for this season’s calendar.
Spring skiing tips
- Wear sunscreen and sunglasses. The sun is strong at altitude and the snow reflects it.
- Dress in layers you can shed by afternoon.
- Buy lift tickets in advance. Resorts use dynamic pricing, so low-demand days are cheaper.
- Lodging is often less expensive in spring than in peak winter.
- Pair the day with après ski on a sunny patio.
