Park City has two big ski resorts, but some of the best winter days here happen away from the lifts. Nordic skiing, dog sledding, a sleigh ride to a yurt dinner and a backcountry hut trip in the Uinta Mountains are all within reach. Prices and dates below are from the most recent season we could confirm, so check each operator before you book.
Nordic skiing
Nordic (cross-country) skiing is the easiest way to get a full-body workout and some quiet in the snow. You have several choices:
- White Pine Nordic Center: About 20 to 25 km of groomed, ski-only trails with 3K, 5K and 10K loops. Day passes start November 1, and adult passes were $26 for 2026-27 at last check, with a cheaper after-3 p.m. rate. Rentals and lessons are available. See White Pine Touring.
- Round Valley: Free trails groomed by the Mountain Trails Foundation, shared with snowshoers, hikers and dogs. Bonanza Flat has also had weekend grooming. Check Visit Park City for current conditions.
- Soldier Hollow Nordic Center: The 2002 Olympic Nordic venue in Midway, open daily from mid-December to mid-March, weather permitting, with lessons, rentals, snowshoe trails and tubing. Details at Utah Olympic Legacy.
Dog sledding
Dog sledding is a bucket-list winter activity, and two operators run tours close to Park City.
- Bear Ridge Adventures in Coalville offers one-hour tours about 25 minutes from Park City. Tours usually start between late November and mid-December, snow permitting, and rates last season were roughly $400 per sled for two riders. Book at bearridgeadventures.com.
- North Forty Escapes in Oakley offers one-hour rides with transportation from Park City included. See their dog sledding page.
Book early for holiday weeks, and dress warmly, because you sit still for most of the ride.
Sleigh ride and yurt dinner
Viking Yurt runs a sleigh ride from Legacy Lodge at Park City Mountain to a yurt for a multi-course dinner. Last season ran from mid-December into early April at about $225 per person, with reservations opening in November. It sells out, so book as soon as dates open at vikingyurt.com.
The Uinta yurts: a backcountry hut trip
For a bigger adventure, the Western Uinta Hut System near Park City is Utah’s first four-season hut-to-hut system, run by Inspired Summit Adventures under a U.S. Forest Service permit. It opened in the winter of 2024-25 with two yurts, Castle Peak and Smith & Morehouse, each sleeping 9 to 10 people with a wood stove and kitchen, and Castle Peak has a barrel sauna. Trips are guided and all-inclusive, usually multi-day, and they are priced per person per day, so this is a splurge. It is not a beginner trip, and avalanche training is strongly recommended.
