The Ice Castles in Midway were a winter favorite near Park City, with glowing ice tunnels, slides and fountains. If you are planning a trip this winter, here is the honest update: the attraction skipped the 2025-26 season while the company reworked how it builds the castles, and as of early October 2026 we have not seen a confirmed Utah return. The company has said it hopes to come back, so check icecastles.com for any announcement before you plan around it.
What the Ice Castles were
Each winter, crews grew a walkable ice maze in Midway out of thousands of hand-placed icicles, with LED lighting, tunnels, slides and ice fountains. It was a popular family stop, best at night, and it usually opened in December or January depending on the cold.
What to do in Midway instead
- Skate at Midway Ice Rink. A big open-air rink with rental skates and a warming hut. See our ice skating guide.
- Soak at Homestead Crater. The geothermal crater is a warm soak in the middle of winter. Reserve ahead and check current hours.
- Try Nordic skiing or snowshoeing at Soldier Hollow. The Olympic Nordic venue is close to Midway. Check the center for current winter offerings.

Planning tip
